IT's tough now to get into something new with the virus going around, because you need to gear up, which means going shopping. Also, you need to get wood, which means shopping.

But have to ask, do you want to do hand tools, or power tools or a little of both?

>wood glue isn't cutting it

what's wrong? Are yuou clamping? I assume it's wobly. I made these in a custom speaker shop, and I can tell you that the smallest ones should not be connected to the tallest as you get some torque issues.
Another thing we did was pre drilled each block on a press, and used a dowel during assembly. For contrast and look, we used different color wood from scrap.

One more thing is make sure the wood is square before you cut to length. Standard wood glue is fine.

One more funny and heartwarming story. This time its about illegal alien workers.

>be me next door neighbor user.
>someone posts that they need kitchen cabinets installed and was wondering who would do it for cheap/free.
>I post that they should go with XYZ GC since they can do kitchen islands and are insured. I've done cabinets with them and no issues.
>someone posts that they can drive to home depot and hire the day workers.
>no calls into GC about kitchen cabinets.
>months go buy and life happens.
>back on next-door neighbor site, someone posts that their kitchen cabinets have fallen off the walls.
>get call into GC for emergency repair of kitchen.
>go there next day.
>they hired some day worker from home depot parking lot to install cabinets to wall. The guy made french cleats to mount the cabinets to the wall, but his mistake was he used only glue to mount the cleat to the cabinet, or used inferior glue, or didn't clamp to dry.
>the mount was property attached to the studs.
>French cleats is a good way to install cabinets but the cleat should be deep, and should be installed with glue and wood screws.
>homeowner had to buy new cabinets, dishes and some pots and pans damaged.
>asked how much they paid the day worker. "I gave them each $150 and free pizza".

THank you. I just received a #7 plane from ebay. Waiting on some supplies to refurbish it. Should I make a thread on refurb of the 7 plane? ITs over 100 years old.

I don't have a job. I"m retired. I live in the southwest. Two kids, that I"m teaching how to work with wood using hand tools only.

Today, I went to Home Depot and Lowes, looking for some pine. They have finished pine of course, but out side of that they have miles of douglas fir. Miles and miles of it. Then they both have a new species of wood:

"White wood" that looks like pine. Why not call it pine?

I don't buy joinery grade lumber because, invariably, there is some defect. I would rather, hand plane up a board square myself. Good exercise, great sounds, and smells.

I started wood working many years ago, but I recently returned and converted to hand tools only, during the NFL kneeling season. So now, instead of drinking a six pack of Bud, watching National Felon League while eating some Doritos Brand Tortilla Chips, I head to the garage and build stuff from wood.

Much more productive use of my garage, and time, and I've lost weight too!

Happy Memorial Day. Thanks to all the Vets that served their Country!

OP here. I recently refurbished a 100 year old plane as per PS instructions. Came out bretty gud.

I used a honing guide- the standard one that clamps on to the sides of the blade. I used a water stone (NORTON), and using a water stone is too much of a production: soak the stones, flatten the stone, then sharpen.

I'm looking at diomond plates because the ease of use is probably faster.

Here is some more fresh woodworkingh porn.
