These are sort of the low effort, high results for predatory animals like foxes and cats.
Shooting is effective, I'm not entirely sure how that works in the USA as I'm not a burger with blackpowder, if you've got a bit of cash there's plenty of companies out there making replica blackpowder firearms that work. Course actually hitting the fox in the middle of the night with some old timey yeet cannon is a whole other problem- like I've literally sat on all-nighters for a week with a variety of big guns and night vision waiting for a predatory fox to harass my lambs and they're sometimes a relatively difficult animal to kill. Not as hard as wild dogs, but some foxes get pretty cunning over the years.
If you can get a 'loaner' from a mate on the sly that won't land you in pokey just a .22, 22magnum or 223 is plenty enough

The less appealing option is 1080
Its a bait poison and it murders anything that eats it, but if you've never used animals baits you do need to wear the right PPE, stick it in the most likely places of predation on the way in, check the baits every couple of days and if you've got any open water sources (streams, dams) then you need to make sure its not going to end up in them as well as the animal itself not dying in the water.
