Okay it took me about ~8 months, but I finally got a job as a software engineer after my machine shop failed.

Don't think I plan to start up another shop anytime soon, but maybe some real estate investments?

How is everyone else's career going? Oh, and I will probably just buy one of those Qidi carbon fiber 3d printers to satisfy the manufacturing needs, anyone have xp on those?

Because of the aforementioned liability of having to replace an expensive part that may be hard to find.

For job shop type work the extra speed won't be essential, which is why I qualified that. Plus, the machine is new, there is less wear on it.

what are you crazy? I would do that for $100, provided I didn't have to pay for it if I fucked it up, but in reality if it's a business then $300 is more reasonable.

>fairly precise
>a hard thing to get just any shop to do

Dude no, with a little care you can get fantastic precision from basic equipment, I have serious doubts there is any dimension on that thing more precise than a 0.001" tolerance.

plugs are installed, seems to work fine, both grinder and lathe.

mill has a static converter, apparently the surface grinder manual says it won't grind as nicely if you have a static converter and only run it on single phase power. I guess because the motor isn't kept running as evenly.

that's like a watch maker's lathe, get a bigger lathe if you want to cut more material anon.

please don't buy Chinese, they really just aren't worth the money. Taiwanese stuff is pretty good though.

OP here again; I'd recomend a mic a counter wheel like this >>1191696 or an electronic mike like this >>1191700

No need to ruin your eyes (and maybe what you're working on) trying to read microscopic has marks like it's 1917.

Former machinist (bridgeport), crib clerk and delivery driver here; what kinda gig would I get (and what's the pay) if I applied for a job at Lowe's or Homey Depot?

Back in the day when I did machining for several years, I only used American made Bridgeport bridgeports, so I’m not familiar with JET brand tools but I don’t think they’re so shitty that one couldn’t use it to make a steam engine and such? We’re not talking Fisher-Price here.

>I'm just not sure how easy it's going to be to get it perfectly centered with the milling machine.

I'm guessing you don't actually run that Bridgeport, in which case ask the guy who does to drill them for you.

>the gears are taken out by hand to change speed

Well, I suppose the price was right and while that'll be acceptable for "heavy milling"
of raw castings and such, doing detail work is going to be a pain in the ass.
