Same room, CNC Mill + Lathe. The blue tile is a real bitch to clean.

The back of the room has all my tooling and such which is probably worth a picture itself.

The actual workshop in the house (concrete floor) has most of my hand tools, an arbor press, bandsaw, tablesaw, bench grinder, belt sander and that kind of stuff.

I've posted this a few times but I've converted both a mill and lathe.

I just attached stepper motors to the acme screws. I've got a lot of money in measurement equipment so I'm able to tune out the backlash and hold a few thou pretty well.

The conversion on both machines together took a few days and cost less than 1000$.

I am currently starting a conversion of a g0704. It will be done properly, double preloaded ballnuts, abec7 bearings, and servos for both the ballscrews and spindle. I expect the machine to cost ~6000$ and take several months.

I also plan on scraping the machine to a few tenths and using glass scales in an outer control loop. Technically the glass scales are accurate to 0.0002" and have divisions every micron so my mill should repeat near flawlessly and do at least half a thou accuracy over the table.

I've got a small shop at home that has been converted to CNC.

Machining isn't particularly hard as long as you have the time and tools. I worked manually for a few years but it is extremely tedious. With CNC I can do some really crazy parts, and make as many of them as I need.

Machining precisely with good finishes is still hard though; workholding, speeds/feeds, and generating decent toolpaths requires a lot of knowledge.

Here is the other side of the room, DIY CNC Mill + Lathe. I was machining parts when this picture was taken which is why the glass stuff has all been pushed to the side.
