I've used them.
Both RedGard and Mepai Aquadefence.

Personally I do not consider them DIY friendly as it's too easy to fuckup get the stuff too thin, or air bubbled or scrape it off when troweling mortar.

Fleece membranes like Schluter Kerdi, as long as you follow the guide is less fuckup-able for a DIY job.

Pictured is a job I did couple years ago where I used both RedGard and Mepai
