if its a returning problem there may be a problem with the drain itself. if you feel brave go into your basement/crawlspace and try to take a level to the drain and make sure it isnt running uphill. water only goes down hill. if you just need a quick fix before christmas, you need to plug off the overflow with a towel, and plunge the drain with a plunger.

and put your back into it! dont be afraid to get dirty, your gonna have a working shower after this, remember?

if that doesnt work, you can try one of those cheap drain snakes from walmart, but they dont work to well.

also go easy on the chemicals. they rarely work and they are very hard on the pipes.
