A pipe general is probably a little bit too specific.
Anyways I'm going to post my pipes.
This one I made a year ago as a gift for a friend after we started smoking pipe just recently.
The chamber is fuckhuge so it tends to get a little hot if you don't smoke it slowly, but you can really feel like a steamtrain with it.

I made two pipes myself. It is pretty easy.

Briar wood is used in 99% of pipes but bog oak is also possible but it is harder to get in in a good and consistent quality.
There are preworked biar wood pieces which already have two wholes drilled and a mouthpiece fitted. If you want to start right away and just want the pipe in your design, I'd say get one of them.
