My wife and I are looking to close a deal on some undeveloped lot, and I wanted to gather advice before we make a mistake.

I don't know how accurate pic related is, but we were hoping to take some modest designs for a home and modify them somewhat, while contracting the work we're not able to do ourselves and fill in where we can to save money. I've never worked with concrete beyond repair, so what should we look for in a foundation? That said is all the hate for "american cardboard houses" warranted? What should we reasonably tackle ourselves in the process, and are there any other resources or tips you'd suggest?

>I live in the EU, what would be the best choice regarding common tools and brands?

obviously makita for aku, you can buy used as well, for handtools luxtools you can get in PeveC is pretty good, bauhaus is a ripoff. tools from Lidl are pretty solid as well, its lower mid tier but worth every kuna.

Might make a new thread: Is are there any other videos, books, or things I should know for building along HOUSEPILL anon's philosophy?

My goal: Build my parents a retirement home before they retire (within 4 years), and my own home (within 3), both to last AT LEAST 100 years. They'll be built somewhere in northern USA, and in tropical Central America.

>For example cement absolutely destroys the environment and concrete is awful for ocean floors (since we source the sand from there).

as if sourcing wood isnt taking resources from the environment, real question is about sustainability/frequency - everything takes resources from nature. git gud, real about hat and boots in pic rel. slab foundation is absolute garbage.

the most eco and money friendly thing to do regarding housing and all technology is building stuff to last, rest is just memes.

>I'm planning on an alpine-style house but using rammed earth at the base

SLOW DOWN SWEET SUMMER CHILD SLOW DOWN!!!
Alpine houses have masonry as foundation since timber framing is heavy + snow loads on roof, rammed earth is nowhere near as strong as stone masonry, entire house might collapse if you do rammed foundation.

thermal mass and non (((air-tightness))) are your friends. whatever you do dont buy an Amerimutt OSB shitshack that rellies on HVAC and AC for remperature and air control if you are looking for a good build.

Ship container is onions, total crap for housing and not very durable actually, and OSB I dont even, how new are you 2, Ive been posting here 2 months already.
Consult pic rel infographics for any build but I suggest the croatian shitshack especially since tornado (RC beams + red aerated terracota brick tudor style filled).

NOTHING WRONG with stick framing, but current yank homes arent even that, they have more glue than wood in it.
