chances are the spindle runout was when it was ground, the literature says their smaller lathes ways are only accurate to a thou anyway.

If you want to have it cleaned up you could try running a reamer into it, if you can locate and hold it rigidly closer than a thou...

there are military surplus indicator kits being sold on ebay at the moment, mine just arrived and it's awesome

It might only be a 0.001" indicator but the build quality is amazing.
