very nice piece anon

Next time you forge your point, alternate between turning left and right, instead of rolling it in one direction. That will cause the point to be more straight and that looks much nicer on a curl.

Also, before you twist, straighten the piece as much as you can, and make sure you don't bent while you twist.

You did make a very nice and straight blade, im jelly. i would however take more care when cleaning up, like make sure you sand only in one direction, and clean the base of the blade.

pic is a wand I made a while back, forged the ball too.

Hi /diy/nosaurs

I decided that I wanted a magic wand, so I am forging one. I come to you looking for ideas for design and comments on execution.

pic is MagicWand rev 0.2, sorry for not that great photo.
approx 40 cm and 500g, the "gem" is a forged steel ball . Forged from 10mm square stock. I tried to forge a small ball on the start of the rod, but it broke off. The plan was to make a basket handle, but had great trouble making a split this long, and I was sure I will destroy it if I tried to split it again.

The twist turned out pretty cool , I sawed notches in the sides before twisting. The initial whole was slightly off-centre, despite being careful, so it was difficult to get it straight again.

So, what should I do for v0.3? I have some 40mm "crystal" spheres coming from in from china, but that is kinda tool obvious. Obsidian is another options I am considering.
