For the base I used latex foam, which is form fitting and firm, and has a bunch of vertical air holes to keep cool.
The top layer is "buckling column gel" which is shit that's kind of like an ice cube tray with no bottom, kinda squishy, gives support for areas like your lumbar, and is even more cooling due to low contact area. I couldn't order the gel directly so I had to buy several mattress toppers and rip it out of them.
