This is a coffee-can forge. This is THE cheapest option for a good blacksmithing forge. All materials can be bought at Home Depot for less than $100.

Also, you will need a piece of train rail for an anvil. Mount it to a tree stump.

Finally, for tools, get a hammer and a set of tongs, all made from steel.

This is a coffee can forge. It will cost you less that 50 dollars to make and you can buy all of the materials from home depot. It is also multi-purpose; you can fire ceramics in this forge as well.

If you want to do this as a hobby, this is your best bet for a starting forge. A fire or stove work okay, but a coffee-can forge gets up to the right temperature consistently.

You will also need an anvil and tongs. You can use a piece of train rail mounted on a stump for an anvil, or just a big rock. Get some heavy-duty cast-iron tongs from Home Depot.
