Real easy fix dude - where the slats are laid under your mattress, just lay and old blanket cut to size over them, followed by a piece of scrounged plywood, like wise cut to size. Once your mattress is back on top, the weight will be far more easily distributed, so you should be fine. At a pinch, even laying flattened cardboard boxes roughly the right size would afford some measure of reinforcement. Hope that helps.
