So, I found myself in possession of at least 400, maybe 500 shellac records.

Since these things are stupidly busted up, and I'm not exactly sentimental, I wanted to try my hand at fashioning something with the material, but I have no real idea how it works.

I'm pretty sure melting them is a bad idea from a health perspective (can they even be melted, or do they burn?), but can I stretch this stuff out so I can paint on it?

Really don't have a damn clue what I'm doing here, and would prefer not killing myself, to be honest.
