Prolly a bit too late for you >>163105, but have you considered a design like this >>163138?

Cant remember the name of them or i'd have googled an image up, but I threw together some of these at a school working day to make some pigeon holes, you could scale it down to your own needs using thin ply, perhaps designing the rectangles to be close to the same size as plastic drawers or something you can buy somewhere.

Easy as hell to cut, just stack your rows/colums and cut them as one with a jigsaw or wood saw. Straight cuts are of course crucial here.

Basically, take as many slats as you need shelves, cut equal lines 1/2 way through, then slot front blue pieces into the red columns to make self supporting shelves. We mounted to a brick wall, as you arent you'll prolly only to glue these (once you were certain it was square) and lock it off by screwing/gluing rectangular stock of your choice (Green blocks) into the outside corner sections for rigidity. Something strapped diagonally across the back would help here too..
