Yeah, pretty much! Its all completely functional, but sort of a ways down the line of experiments to see how far I can push my own skill/comfort zone... so after about 3 complete disasters and 3 'successes' that actually hang together solid enough to be comfortable. Then some further evolution in terms of the blade and handle shape, so its the one I'm happiest with so far.
Those ones that really blew apart where quite hard for me to mentally bounce back from, losing a huge amount of time, the materials cost a lot and I actually swore off it for a while to go make some comparatively simple blades.

Course, showed it to someone and they immediately put in an order for 3 knives sort of in that style- one of which will have a pattern welded, san-mai blade which I absolutely fucking hate doing (its summer here and about 30-40C so pattern welding anything is a nightmare) but they where just going 'nope', open book, take your time and its really kind of hard to say no to that.
So I'm really in for some suffering over the next month.
