I live in southern California and have experienced 2 major earthquakes in my lifetime. Im 40 btw.
If my home were built of stone or any other heavy materials, I would be crushed to death in the event of a structural collapse of my home.
However, my stick home has survived rather well because its capable of flexing and if it were to collapse on me, I'd likely have no more than 150-200 lbs max. of material on a part of my body and local emergency teams would have no problem sawing that material off of me within the hour vs the stone that falls on the people in Turkey where they have to pull out dead bodies 1 month later because of stone buildings
