Hi except a really powerful capacitor and magnetic wire a voltmeter what else do I need to build a coilgun do I need a mitrocontroller so i know when i have to turn off the coils or there's another way for powerful coilgun (i don't want it to be limited) ?

Hey guys,

I'm making a coil gun. I plan to start with two stages powered with capacitors. Any tips for me? Where should i look for wire? (eurofag here)

I was going to take this question to /g/, but they seem more like software people.

I want to make a backpack-mounted high-power coilgun on an articulated robot arm, which is aimed via triangulation targeting using a wrist mounted laser sight and trigger. Unfortunately, I don't have an electrical engineering, robotics, or computer science degree.

What are some good online resources for someone wanting to acquaint themselves with those disciplines? I learn quickly, but I have zero frame of reference for two out of those three areas of study and I need to get my bearings with the basics.

Is a 300 µF capacitor enough to make a powerful coilgun (gauss gun) ?
