er, my bad. the CV input is better used for FM. otoh, if you have an opamp or totem-pole-output comparator, you can use the 555 as a triangle wave generator, taking the tri wave (1/3Vcc p-p, 1/2Vcc offset) from pin 6, and use the opamp/comparator output to drive the FET. one input is the shifted and attenuated output voltage, the other is the tri wave
