Every single material substance is "exponentially stronger than" every single other material substance. I know the x makes it sound cool, but it's usually a good idea to understand what terms mean before using them.

The point being that mechanical watches are more expensive than quartz. People who want mechanical watches want them for looks, status, hobby interest, etc. rather than the functional purposes of a watch, for which quartz has long been superior. As such, it is not surprising that someone making an improvement to the timekeeping abilities of mechanical watches doesn't overturn the mechanical watch market, because the people buying mechanical watches weren't looking for that in the first place. It's not surprising that the general watch market has not been overturned, because the mechanical innovation would still be more expensive than quartz even if it delivers functional parity, analogous to how the more expensive Betamax fared against VHS, even with Betamax's supposed technical advantages. Today, if you want the best timekeeping in a watch, you get one that wirelessly syncs itself to an institutional atomic clock. Similarly to how both VHS and Betamax are obsolescent today.
