I don't like them, they are durable but extremely outdated with the advent of LED technology. (as well as other vast improvements that go along with that, driver circuitry, brightness, Li-Ion batteries)
While I dont reccomend this light because i got it DOA and RMA'd it, this particular light is exactly 30 times more bright than your typical maglight, and a fraction of the size.
>well what about battery life then, there's no way that light will go as long as my maglight.
You can dim the brightness, at one lumen it will shine for 177 hours on a single cell, compare with a maglights 19 lumens.

Implying 9 volt batteries and steel wool aren't finite resources too.

When you get magnesium wet it still works to start fires, You should have some sort of woods knife and a proper magnesium fire-starter, If you are afraid its going to run out have two or how ever many you need to feel comfortable. Soon as you dunk a 9 volt battery into the drink its going to quickly degrade. One thing you SHOULD have batteries for is a proper flashlight. With a 550 lumen SOS function, 1 lumen survival mode that lasts 177 hours on one cell I believe a good lighting tool is invaluable innawoods. Whenever I go camping I bring this light and a very small waterproof pelican case with 25 cells. If you are going to be out for way longer than that, bring a bigger case with a solar panel and charger taped to the inside of the clear lid, batteries for life.

Its almost as if people in this thread are discounting lumens as a proper measurement of light output, they most certainly are. However you do need to be weary of certain manufacturers overstating their lumen outputs.
Heres my EDC, Jetbeam PC-10 550 OTF lumens for 30 minutes on one cell, 1 lumen for 120 hours on one cell.
