So, I tried to do this earlier today because I needed to replace the lights in my rec-room. However the bulbs had a thick white layer on the inside (not like the frosted layer on regular bulbs). I saw that others suggested salt/warm water to remove the frosted layer from other bulbs, and so I figured I'd give it a shot. This is what I got (See second pic)
