Why do you burgers have such a hardon for porches?

I can understand extending the roof cover so you have an outside area that is still protected by the rain, but

With a suspended roof I can easily move things in and out of cover, and the ground being at... ground... level allows for something large like a table to be sheltered while still allowing people to effortlessly walk around it.
