10 feet. Ensuring as littler oxygen as possible will be exchanging with the container over time. By a glazed crockery (big pottery thing) large enough to fit the container inside it. Place the crockery upside down to make it completely water proof even it if the area becomes 100% saturated with water; like a diving bell, but only it'll be underground. If you can get a small tank of argon gas, use it to replace the air in the time capsule and the crockery.
