I'd say, feng shui basics are very important. The reason why so many people ITT think small spaces are comfy is not because it's cramped, but because they feel safe there. That same feeling of safety can be recreated in a bigger room, you just need to do it right.
The colors in OPs pic are perfect, except maybe that weird painting sitting on top of the fireplace, blue doesn't fit in that room.
Earth tones with a sprinkle of fire is peak comf.
Only one door in the room. This is non-negotiable. Relatively small windows, so there's no feeling of being exposed.
Not too much clutter, but it should never be sterile, if it's too cleaned up you won't feel comfy because there's always that nagging thought to keep it 100% clean.
Sharing is caring. With at least one other person you are very comfortable with, + optionally a pet. Being forever alone in a comfy room quickly turns it uncomfy. A wife is preferred for obvious reasons, but a bro who lives close by and comes over often is fine too.
