>take home, plug into an amplifier / pc and have a base station
Alright, that'd be an interesting setup. One HF/VHF/UHF radio for a base station, mobile unit, and HT. As long as the build quality is good and it's durable, that'd be interesting.
My takeaway from their marketing was it was solely for pic related
>Pack up tent, sleeping bag, antenna, coax, tuner, and radio
>Walk miles into the woods
>Sit around a camp fire and try to DX the world
>You need our 5 watt radio for this because it's 1lb different! Be Active!®

>This is why I think you're a shill- like you go from rational to spewing trash in two sentences. Why do you need a 7300? You should just get a used 756 MK III, since a 7300 is just a 756 with a "coax switch to your smartphone connected to an SDR", right. If your only experience with SDR's is the shitty $20 8 bit ADC dongles, you really have no idea what an SDR is capable of. Like I've said many times before- they're going to replace superhets, and expect nearly all future radio designs to be SDR.
I respect the SDR, especially waterfall screen for HF.
But for mobile or a HT? Seems like overkill, especially for the price they've yet to throw out. That's what the scan feature is for.
I actually thought about the IC-756 since I want to upgrade to a waterfall display and the 756 does have one, but the 7300 is already down to $800 for an open box model.
If the 705 is $200 more than the 7300, that's something I can't process other than it'll drop to $600 shortly after being released and we'll see all the other HT on the market getting BTFO.
