>bury one and live in it like bunker

the walls are not strong enough to withstand the force of dirt against them. they are designed to be stacked and take the weight of the container on top without buckling, because the 4 corners of the containers carry the load of the next container and give the container itself rigidity. the walls... are shit for structure since these are designed to stack and be on ships and delivered all over. they are not waterproof. if they fall off they can flood. they are not insulated. shit can get real hot inside or cold depending on where they are at. you would need to beef up the structure inside to do this. the walls and roof will collapse. pic related. do your research.

those things are not meant to withstand that
when another container is on top of it all the pressure hits those corners and edges
if you cover it in dirt it's going to cave-in sooner or later

The meme is that a surprisingly number of people think it's a good idea to bury them and use as an underground bunker, but in reality the roof isn't strong enough to hold more than a couple inches of dirt.

For a shed it'll do just fine. Ugly as fuck, but if that's not a concern then have at it.

You are the fucking idiot. Containers are built to stack dumbass. All the strength is on the corners in order to stack them simpleton.

If you bury them they will collapse. The strength of the container is on the corners. Designed to be stacked. The walls, floors and ceiling have little strength to hold back tons of earth.

Ugh, one of those threads again

Look nigger, these containers are built to be light, or rather as light as possible They are only meant to be stacked on the corners and the weight/rigidity is very tightly balanced. If you really intend to bury one, you will have to do hell of a welding job to make it robust, costing you a lot of material, and I'm not sure if it's worth it compared to working with concrete prefabs, nor do I know anything about the corrosion risk. There is a reason those ready-made tube shaped bunkers are sold. Either way, the soundproofing foam can be bought for cheap enough from chinks afaik, I recall seeing some on banggood.

>also good if you need an inexpensive bunker.

Definitely not a good idea for a bunker. The walls have no rigidity

I love this meme. But seriously OP, this pic is what happens when you put containers underground without support. If you plan on digging out the entire thing from solid rock as opposed to sediments then go ahead, but I wouldn't trust that thing to keep the odd boulder off your head, especially considering you'll be blasting material out of rock in the first place. Even if you want to just surround the containers with concrete you'll either have to do it in minuscule steps or provide internal stability to the containers. I'm not trying to discourage you, just set the record with containers straight. The point is, at this level of reinforcing it would be easier to make something purposefully built for being constructed underground. You also forgot a container to house your imitation crab meat.

Sea cans aren't designed to be buried. The walls are actually quite weak and they'll crumple under the weight of all the dirt. I've looked this up before.

That said - shit'll buckle.
Some cylindrical would work better, like a large sewage pipe, or an oil truck.

Well that's the wrongest thing anyone has said in this thread.
