my second attempt at casting an aluminium gear
i was using a plaster mould and carved the shape out of candle wax
made some casting sand a while back but havent had the chance to use it since my "furnace" (aluminium cooking pot with holes in it buried in the ground) started melting. planning on getting a scrap steel cylinder and surrounding it with sand or dirt to keep the heat trapped in. every place i go to doesnt have fireclay or they have expensive premixed refractory (if i was rich i wouldnt be using a garden pot...). havent melted anything in about a year...
