That’s what I thought too, but they’re great for gripping and cutting. Almost like an all around demo pliers. I ran into a situation like this >>1544195 recently and they were the best thing I had to grip the smooth bolt without having to grind a slot into it. Between the pivot joint and the waffle pattern on the jaws, plus the powerful cutters, they work well for a lot of random shit.

The big Channellock crimper and cutter pliers are another one I got fairly recently that come in handy for more than one use. I rarely even reach for the diagonal cutters anymore.
