I want to build my own home, I will need some outside assistance on the foundation and electrical work. What I also don't know are the shearing effects in a timber frame home. I live in the pacific northwest where we are earthquake prone so I need strong shear walls and tie downs.

tldr: shear walls in a timber frame house

Moot will set it on fire while playing his little gay wax-torture games.
Starting out with a small bit of land and a simple campingsite is a good idea though, even if you don't know what to do with it at the start the ideas will come over time.
