I'm trying to make a little laser pointer gun thing as part of a project to make a cheap DIY system for training shooting in my apartment (commercial ones are insanely expensive)
I'm intending to use regulation paper targets and I've got the hit registration handled with a homemade computer program and a webcam. But for the 'gun' I figured I'd try my hand at making an analogue system because it seemed like a simple project, and I had no problems making circuits in minecraft using redstone a decade ago so it should be easy. Also even if I haven't made as much as a minecraft circuit for years, I should be able to blink an LED without a micro-controller.

The idea:
A 9v battery. An on/off switch to control power to the circuit, indicating power with an LED. A momentary switch that when pressed 'load' the 'gun', indicating it is ready to fire with an LED, and further presses does nothing until fired. And a momentary switch that when pressed, and the circuit is loaded, fires a small laser diode for a fraction of a second so the webcam pointed at the target can detect it.

So I looked up latching circuits cause I remembered them from minecraft, copied one into an old pirated version of circuit wizard, tested it, it worked, altered it slightly so the reset button would also fire a brief moment of power to the laser diode, tested it again, and it worked.
Then I tried it in real life and... Doesn't work. The latching circuit doesn't latch. What is wrong with this circuit? Should it not be able to work at all and its a bug in circuit wizard gaslighting me into thinking it should? Am I a retard? (spoiler: yes)

Also before anyone asks me why I picked specific values or did something a certain way; It looked like it'd work, it worked in the simulation, and the parts came in cheap bundles on aliexpress. Thats all the thought put into this.
