>>467081 Finally I get some positive feedback in this thread to restore my optimism. I invested $20 in to the carpet. The wood I had laying around so it was free. I also spent $7 dollars on a roll of Sisal rope but was not used on this tower.

The $20 plus 3 days of my time and labor. Of course I had some setbacks and had to reupholster some of the steps and backtracked a bit but my next tower shall go by much more smoothly. I'd sell it for $180.

Being unemployed I have so much time on my hands. I just got back from cutting down a small maple tree by the tracks ( and having my skin turn to the consistency of a warm potato left in the sun too long and continued to peel off with each mighty strike with my axe)

I'll be drying this in the sun and making homemade tabaco pipes for myself and to sell if I get good and make extras.

Just need to get the stem, which Im thinking I should use bone. Just need to go kill some stray cats for that.

Howdy /diy/,

I'm starting up woodworking, and I can definitely see how it could be an enjoyable hobby. Only thing is, I really suck at it. I'm coming from some experience in machining (mill/lathe with metal), where everything is measured and exact. This sure is different, and I'm trying to make a wood bow as my first project. Simple things, but I seem to suck at eye-balling things. I suppose that's why they say this is a skill. I seem to start it off by fucking up and working from there on out to make it 'as good as I can get it'. Tools I'm using so far are a surform, belt sander (stationary w/ disk), and skilsaw.

Question is; is there anything that I can do to not suck, or does it come down to practice? Suggested readings/websites?
