Was planing poplar from big box store. Made a small dove tail trash pale. Not really happy with it. Too light.

No poly, no shellac no sealcoat. BLO is better, and allows the sweat and oil of your hands to seep into the wood as you use it, actually conditioning it. If you sand the totes and the handles with 1000 grit, the hand feel of BLO is wonderful. It feels like a women's bewb, soft, and perfect for the hand.

that sucks. I had a bit of an allergic reaction while planing some douglas fir and hit the pith- were the soft oily pine residue mucking up. At first it was a pleasant smell, but after spreading the soft stuff a bit started to feel weird, hypervent.
Fixed by wiping the sole of the plane, and leaving the shop open garage door for ventilation.
Next day, no problems.
