>2015
>House hunting, looking for a long-term home and to GTFO of my lemon flipper-special of a starter home
>Checking out 3200+sqft log cabins up in the Blue Ridge Mountains
>$500k limit since the wife wasn't working full time yet
>Check out one cabin, absolutely gorgeous in the pictures
>Drive up, 3 car extended garage, 3 story cabin, picture perfect at first
>Walk in
>Something feels... off... very off
>Agent is doing the tour, wife and I give each other a weird look
>Decide to check the basement
>Screw jacks every 3'
>Walk to the exterior basement door
>Foundation is literally 4" thick, thin side of a typical brick and mortar
>Zero footers can be seen
>Zero support columns
>Evidence of foundation shift
>Homeowner knew, started pouring bags of quick set concrete over crusher run piled against rear wall, making this giant ugly mound of concrete like it was helping or something
>Go outside
>4x4 posts propped up against exterior log walls, screwed in with drywall screws
>Go back to the main floor
>Realize the entire house is bowed inward to a single point
>Wife picks up a marble from a decorative vase, drops it on the floor
>Marble rolls across 3 rooms to the hallway
>Oh fuck
>Tell the agent we're done with that house
>They wanted $449k but the damn thing probably needed $150k in foundation restoration work
>Just for shits and giggles, look it back up last year
>Some poor bastard bought it, owned it for 3 months, relisted it for $100k less and it never sold. I imagine it collapsed.
