I want to build my own power bank.
I want it to be as efficient as possible.

Can I use an ic like maxim MAX1709? Are there any better, similar priced ICs out there? Can I use parts from dead computers for it?

Is it safe to order these ICs from aliexpress? Am ausfag, difficult to find shipping here.

Thanks. This is going to be my first project so I'm super grateful for any help.

I want to start building my own circuit boards for various diy projects like speakers, power supplies, and power banks.

My first project I'm looking at is a power bank using a Maxim MAX1709 after a little research. Can anyone here direct me to some good beginner friendly guides on electronics? Is it okay to buy parts from aliexpress? I also have a lot of spare parts from dead computers to work with.

Does /diy/ also have advice regarding the power bank? It'll be powered by 3 3400mAh 18650s. I want it to be as efficient as possible within a reasonable budget.
