I keep most of my components and ICs in the small bins in the background. The resistors and capacitors go into separate compartment boxes, there's another black box full of components for a competition robot I've been planning to build for months now.
I'm switching to SMD, so for now all the SMD resistors and capacitors are sitting inside the jar of shame. I also store my jumper cables in a jar. I use stripped pieces of wire and not the fancy ones.

I hope you don't keep the box under your bed, otherwise you'll have to explain that to the fire department.
