Minky's fairly expensive, so I test out new patterns in cheap muslin, make and mark corrections to the pattern draft, and do the final plush in Minky. Same as I do when making clothes--pattrrn test in muslin and make corrections before cutting into the fashion fabric. It's a standard practice in the industry. The clothes muslin test is called a toile.
