My nigga, I appreciate this greatly. They've got 1x3 strip board for $2/8ft.
This makes the whole thing a touch bigger, an extra 3/4" of height for each shelf, and an extra half-square-foot of surface area in total, all for ~$2 less. Better in every way that matters.
