You don’t have a ton of choice on hand tools if Lowe’s is your only option. Their Kobalt brand is fine, but I suggest waiting and watching the prices for the big sales if you’re trying to start from scratch. Pic related has a ton for $200 and I bet you could find it for $100-$150 on sale. There are a couple smaller sets for $100-$150 and those will go on sale for a bit less too from time to time.

Power tools, depends how expensive you want to go. Ryobi, Porter Cable are more affordable assuming they sell everything you want. Milwaukee and Dewalt are the next step up and have huge lines of anything you could want. That’s another situation where you should be patient and watch for sales. You can get $700 worth of tools and batteries for $300.

I just feel like we’re lacking a real mechanic’s tool store. I was just at Lowe’s grabbing some things and the tool selection is so limited. Want wrenches, sockets, or screwdrivers? Kobalt or Stanley. Home Depot is slightly better.

I dream of a brick and mortar store that sells all of the major brands you find on Amazon, and for every tool you have a selection of brands ranging from Chinesium like Pittsburgh up to some GearWrench and Craftsman and then top shelf is Proto and those Yuro companies you guys fap to. Want something real basic where even Chinese QC is reliable enough? Get the generic rebranded Pitt or Clutch. Want your go-to screwdrivers for the rest of your life? Armstrong and Wera are a couple shelves above.

>tfw would never work because minorities exist and every Snap-On socket set would be missing a 10mm socket
