1st mate on offshore vessel. Basically I press all the buttons and when something stops working I just tell the engineers and they go fix it. When at home I have the entire days for my own DIY projects.

Sometimes I wish I had chosen to work as the marine engineer, but when I visit the hot and noisy engine room I am reminded of the luxuries of AC.

People sometimes tell me how they could never imagine being away from home for 4-8 weeks, but having tried a job with normal working hours on land I wonder how people can tolerate commuting for such a long time in terrible traffic.
