Hell /diy/nosaurs.

I am not wealthy, but I own a lot of books. I like how they look as decoration and I like reading them, but I have no place to store them, so i need a bookcase. lacking funds, I have decided the best course of action is to make a board-and-brick bookcase a la the college dormroom stereotype. This is ideal because it will allow me to make a relatively large shelf, and to throw it out when I move or get money for a new shelf.

So, two things I need help on:
1. Where is the best place to find materials for free/cheap? Should I just go to the hardware store, or hold out for free construction supplies on craigslist or a nearby dumpster.
2. How do I make sure this thing is safe? Preferably without drilling into or otherwise damaging the walls.

I cleaned my room! some of this stuff I got into hasn't been touched in years so I feel really good about finally saying goodbye to possessions I don't need and things I kept for no reason.

Fuck simplistic rooms, they're impersonal as fuck and you wouldn't keep them that clean anyway.
