it takes years to learn to repair TVs properly. anyway, try this
- disconnect power
- open it up with screwdriver and plastic spatula type thing
- remove whatever metal shield you see until you get a look at the 2 or 3 circuit boards. dont lose anything, remember how it all goes back together.
- look at the board where the power cord goes into.
- check for caps that look damaged - replace if found
- otherwise, close it up and forget it.
- you can wire an external switch if you can live with the shame of actually getting up to turn the TV off like they did in the 1950's.

to attach a load to that, you usually need a gear with a keyway, and a key -- the key is a rectangular piece of steel that matches the two keyways. the key transfers force from the shaft to the gear.

instead of a gear, you can also use a v-shaped pulley to drive a belt.

> caps are loss leaders that they put in to maximize profits

I dont think you know what that term means.

Loss leader : an item offered at a loss in order to lead customers into the store.

Q: How do you stay in business when you lose money on every sale?
A: Quantity.

plus, it's not a good idea to have the high-voltage diodes next to the low-voltage ones.

you'll find that wiring the diodes in two squares of 4 diodes each makes the wiring much simpler.

for T2 you buy a 220 to 24, which is functionally equivalent to a 120:12, which when connected backwards, becomes 12:120.

for T2 you use a 220 to 24, which is functionally equivalent to a 120:12, which when connected backwards, becomes 12:120.

as for the current rating, it says to use 5A but, from what I see, 1A is more than enough for T2. T1 should be 5A tho.

a trick for greatly reducing noise from a generator is to put it in a hole in the ground. a tarp and stones can then be used to protect it when it rains.

implying a k1d with a slingshot doesnt think a solar panel is the greatest target in the world.

you dont want an electronics place, you want an electrical supply place. the kind of store where electricians and machine manufacturers get supplies like heavy-duty contactors and such.

the AC signal is symmetrical so it will work the same whichever way you connect it.

coz it's awesome at not breaking or becoming intermittent.

Those Helping Hands can be more trouble than they're worth. for example, look at this retard on Youtube, who made one of the most popular How-to-solder videos. notice the alligator clip is really close to the hot area, melting the plastic and poking holes in the insulation. that's reckless and potentially deadly.

the stupid fucker also recommends wrapping the solder around your hand to steady it. the resultant lead poisoning must've addled his brain.

also, I havent looked at the spec but I presume all or most SD signals are bi-directional, so that doubles the complexity. another reason to opt for a simple mechanical switch. something like the switches used on old tape players to switch between 'record' and 'play'.

you want a 3 pole 2 way switch. probably a rotary one will be easier to find.
pic related, except it's a 2 pole, 4 way. too lazy to find the right one.

using 1/4-inch audio jacks would be kinda cool coz they're so easy to insert and remove. one way to make them better at handling high current would be to use two of them, one for positive and another for negative. you could short the TIP and RING on each one for added contact area.

only thing is you'd need 2 plastic shoulder washers to insulate the positive terminal from the case. like the one in the pic.

these kind of kits are fine for somebody who just wants to create interesting devices but they dont teach theoretical aspects, such as how a transistor turns on or off.
I've seen the manual for this particular kit, and there are many cool projects in it.

Download a WYSIWYG type of web page authoring software. I recommend Web Page Maker coz it's pretty simple. make sure you download a torrent that contains a lot of templates.

it's certainly doable, but only by someone who knows what they're doing. first, you'd need to trace out the schematic and then modify the trigger input. you'd replace it with something like a MOC3011 to isolate the high-voltage circuit from the computer. and you'd need a small amplifier to raise the audio level to about 2 volts peak in order to drive the LED inside the MOC3011.

>I just changed the layout to a lighter background and a softer font.

it's absolute shit. as soon as I see it, my eyeballs scream, GETMEOUTTAHERE. coz of too much contrast between the header pic and the background, as well as between the text and background. The font is ugly, and it looks like it's all bold, which is unreadable. it's a retro, 1990's look, which is a very bad thing. in 2012, you need subtlety, lightness, clear fonts, and you cant have one very wide column of text. see facebook for inspiration.

also, the content should start about 2 inches higher, so shorten the (useless) photo.

also, you need a tag to tell people what it's all about. people should know what they've entered immediately, without going to the About page.

also, instead of useless dates, you should have titles, so people know if it's worth reading.
