Hairspray don't work too well anymore...

Right guard still uses butane as a propellant... or... you know, use schedule 80 PVC and use real butane... :)

I forget to mention, if you're just using it to take photos, you want it well lit, anyways so there's less noise/grain/general photo artifacting. If you're filming "how-to" and whatnot, the same the applies, while also not obscuring the view to the... viewer.

>> No.178592 [View]

For art applications, and whatnot, I feel like you should have lighting that doesn't cast shadows. I know that sounds ridiculous, you're hunched over your project at all times, typically, so overhead lighting casts a shadow. It's fine for sitting back, and looking, but as far as seeing what you're doing... nah.

Crossed angle fluorescent lights may be what you're after. I work on a lot of electronics and couldn't find a solution, I ultimately defaulted to using a fucking headlamp, I look like Dr. Evil when I'm elbow deep in amplifiers.

Experiment with placing, and figure what gives you the best and most versatile lighting situation, then adapt the rig to it. Don't put unnecessary strain on your eyes, y'know?

How about a little OC, be wary of how much you cut. Imply certain details...

so, boys/girls, the last thread was pretty awesome. Did anyone cut/have results to show? I've just been cutting randoms and spraying them on guitar cases and whatnot to cure that boredom disease. Getting surgical with the blades, and feel pretty good about it. Has anyone done multi-layers yet?

>> No.178327 [View]

There's no reason to get super technical with it, Get a 24 inch by 24 inch sheet of tempered glass, have the shop that cut it bevel the edges smooth for you, since it's a finished piece. Hit the local bigbox Chinese outlet store, get some frosted glass paint. Frost one side, it's your down side.

Salvage or GASP, buy, a proper sized fluorescent light fixture, this is to be mounted to the bottom of your light box in the center.

Salvage or GASP, buy, some pine from Homo Depot or Lowes, cut 45's, glue/pin nail together. Use whatever spray paint you have on hand to paint to taste.

Cutting the insert may be a little annoying without a table saw, but it can be done. You're basically making a shadowbox picture frame, that's back lit.

Oooo more fun toys to make. I'm not trying to ~completely~ bastardize it, I still plan on using gut frets and whatnot, I just needed to figure proper scale length so the intonation wasn't so far off from the Santoor that it's noticeable.

This site will show you how to ~properly~ make stencils. It takes some forward thinking.

GLORIOUS! Alright, once i get the specifics down.

What should we use for wood? I plan on bumping as I make and go along? I've got all kinds of shit around the shop, Purpleheart, oak, mahogany, poplar, walnut, etc. I plan on making it similar to a neck-through guitar, a neck that goes from head to butt, with wings glued to it.

From what I understand, there's many different types, but they fall into general categories of "Setar" and "Tar," the latter having more drone strings like the traditional Indian SITAR.

I'm assuming the baby Setar has a higher pitch? It's getting played next to a Santoor, and a standard Bass guitar. The Setar is really just going to have short parts played on it, then looped, or only picked up when I'm not playing drums to fill gaps. What we're trying to accomplish is a somewhat traditional, more so-bastardized version of traditional Iranian music, but... modernized. Mixed with some post-rocky/ambient weenie music. We've been jamming with the bass/drum/Santoor combination for a little while, and it sounds fantastic, but we're thinking we need something more.

Alright, /diy/, I need to make a SETAR. It's a three stringed Iranian instrument, a forth string was added sometime in the last couple of decades for a droning effect, cool. I'll add it anyways.

There is very little to no information regarding the specifics. I'm certain I can build one with no problem, I just can't find a proper scale length, nor can I find proper fret spacing. They're kind of wonky, and movable, made of gut or nylon. I plan on fixing them in place, as this will be somewhat electric, the acoustic resonator won't be necessary.

So, and /dirany/ians around? If so, please help!
