Pepper spray or a gun are clearly the best choice in my opinion. Tasers and martial arts put you in easy striking distance of knives and multiple opponents.

Now you say that the laws in Cali don't permit over a certain size(2.5 oz)? In /diy/ spirit why not construct some sort of high power, hidden in your sleeve spray system with two 2.5 cans?

Well OP if you can get cellphone reception you can pay a hell of a lot for 4G, nowadays a lot of smart phones will act as modems for your laptop or connect straight to a TV. Also possibly you could possibly pay for a cable line out by where the road is and just build an outhouse looking building there with a modem and router is housed? Either way you're going to pay a lot for an inna woods connection.

By the way the construction looks like it's going well, keep it up friend!

But I sure can imagine it being a hassle if you live out of town but not near farms, aren't growing a garden or don't have lots of manpower/manwaste.

Actually I read somewhere that with larger piles they have to keep it cool for the first four months because too high of a heat kills the good bacteria also.
I was just thinking about heating a chicken coop with a six foot diameter pile for the winter then use it for fresh raised bed gardens in the spring. I still have to crunch some numbers, I'll get back to the board about it sometime.

Well friend it really depends what you want for a cabin. Wouldn't be too hard or costly to staple in some insulation and cut a hole for a chimney. But if those are what I think they are, then they're quite tiny, more of a shed or a place house for kids.

Also, I'll bet for the same price you could probably build your own to better accommodate your needs and have enough left over for a nice stove.

Not to derail.
What does /diy/ think about compost pile heating? Most people just want to harvest burnable methane from their piles. But I found a gentleman on Youtube who heated his outdoor shower with the anaerobic reaction alone which reaches about 50C by winding water pipes through the pile.
