Why not try your hand at leathercraft? A roll (if it is what I'm thinking it is) is stupid easy to make.

Go down to a car pick-n-pull type place and cut the backs off of leather car seats. They usually only charge me about 5 bucks for a 2.5x3 foot chunk

Made a handle for a hammer head I've been kicking around for about a year now out of a busted shovel handle
