printers are a bitch and a half, they are all plastic, often difficult to repair, but i will say...i love my brother 7065dn. it doesnt have a useless fax, it has a nice ADF, scanner, prints quick, does auto duplex printing, connects to my router via lan (and you can SCAN through the network, which isnt always the case with these). but the nicest thing for me is that the toner cartridge is separate from the drum unit, so they dont have to BOTH be replaced every time, and the toner is EASILY refillable. the refill plug is right there on the side and you can get toner for like $5 on ebay.

you dont even need the "reset" kit, theres just a little plastic tab you push on with a screwdriver to tell it there is a new cartridge in there.

we have several similar models at my office, and they serve us very well.

you know now that you mention it my dad has one like the one pictured... i used to call it old spark since..well...it sparked like a mother fucker and scared the shit out of me as a kid...any idea why it would spark? or how to fix it? i would love to claim it before they throw it out.

my dad is 84 btw, and he fucking throws everything away. just adding to the discussion about throw away society...not everyone from a bygone era had the right mentality...some of them created the throw away society we have today. i love my dad but the day i realized that he shaved with an electric razor i almost exploded. why, having learned to shave with a double edge, would he go electric!?! what the fuck dad!!?!

dude that is a sweet ass clock.

i have (what i think is) a 1960's simplex school clock that i got from the chemistry department of the university of florida. its exactly like the one pictured, except i still have the tiny red second hand on mine. its big, about 16".

i worked in the office there (i was an english major) and a very old professor had recently retired. the room that became my office had a lot of his old stuff in there. every once in a while i would find something, ask about it, and their response was "oh, wow, more old stuff, he didnt clean anything out, you can get rid of it." so instead i took it home.

i also have a 1960's bell rotary telephone and selectric II typewriter. it would be working except for the one fucking shitty plastic gear in the back that broke, one day ill have it fixed when i have a place to display it.

as a side note, that simplex clock worked perfectly until recently...its hard wired to 120v, and it just...stopped....any ideas?

ps, i kick myself every day that i didnt take his ash tray. it was an old amber glass and brass standing floor model. *sigh* what i wouldnt give to have it...

i also have a 1960's (i think) dremel shoe polisher that works (just needs new wool)...again, no place to put it so its in storage... =(

man dont even get me started on washing machines. the tranny on ours went out so i had the manufacturer (admiral) send one out (it was under parts warranty, but not labor) and i replaced it myself. such a fucking stupid design.

When it went out AGAIN (squealing, slow spin, etc.) I said thats it we're getting a new one, since it is OBVIOUSLY a bad design. I wasn't wasting any more time on it.

SO, I go out looking for a good old fashioned speed queen, since I KNOW they are servicable, and basically I just want to be able to wash my clothes. but my GF was like no those are hideous and overpriced i want "nice" ones.

For the same price i bought a lightly used 2 year old LG set. They seem to be in perfect working order, and while i resent how complicated they are, i do really love the steam function.... that's was really sold me....i'm just dreading the first time I have to repair them...ugh....

what the fuck is wrong with all of you. petroleum jelly has a melting point within just a few degrees of body temp (99f/37c) so you could probably liquefy it by putting it on the dash of your car. just leave it in the tube, wait for it to warm up, then squirt the tea tree oil into the tube, seal it up, and massage it around in there.

alternatively, put the whole sealed tube in some hot water. that will do the trick. everyone is over thinking this. petroleum jelly is easy as fuck to get into a liquid state. you do not need to microwave and therefore all microwave related comments are moot.

my fucking parents threw out my grandmother's stand mixed because THE BOWL BROKE. I did not come to learn this until very recently when I said I wanted one very badly. Fucking hell.

attached is a pic of a fan that i restored recently, its a 1947 ge vortalex 12" oscillator. i soldered new head wires to the motor, replaced all the wiring and the switch (since the knob cracked and was expensive to replace), removed a lot of rust, painted, oiled, greased, and away she went! blows like hell!

absolutely, sometimes they definitely do go too far. But remember that most people are unreasonable assholes, so what might seem like common courtesy to you would never occur to them.

For example, if you don't prohibit sheds, some jerk will erect 10 of them and start a nursery which produces tons of noise/smell/traffic/code violations/etc. (chainsaws, runoff, fertilizer, etc)

likewise house paint color restrictions seem over bearing but if you don't have them then someone paints their house teal with purple trim. (Both of these are real world examples). Remember that is not just about eyesore or personal opinion but collective opinion which influences property values.

I am representing an hoa right now where the seemingly evil hoa prohibits basketball hoops on driveways. why? Because their dumbass kids dragged it onto the common area tennis courts where it fell on an 8 year old cutting open his scalp. noone will admit to owning it, so the hoa is getting sued for the kids injuries. assholes.

That said, I would never buy a house subject to anything but a minimal or voluntary hoa. I think they are ridiculous but often a necessary evil. The solution is often buying a home without an hoa but in a "good" area and KNOW YOUR NEIGBOORS. a true sense of community is rare and undervalued. At my house there is no hoa but there are city ordinances. In spite of them I have a chicken in my backyard. Fuck the city. But I wouldn't have it if my NEIGBOORS weren't ok with it. But seeing as how I got it from them, they're cool. I also put up a 6 foot fence so nobody even knows. lol

Anyways that's my two cents since you asked. Hope it helps. feel free to ask anything you like, I'm here often.

im a jazz drummer, i love rockabilly, i like psychobilly, so i dig what you're sayin.

but if you're just going to abuse it, slap the shit out of it, stand on it, bang it around, etc, just pick up a cheap one on craigslist. its not like the tone is going to come across or anything. you should be able to find one that some student beat around.

yea man. the only people with standing/the ability to enforce the covenant would be another owner or the board that governs the community. your neighbor can go get fucked.

absolute worst case scenario, if you get summoned to court or someone actually does take some sort of action against you, you just take down the shed and they have no grounds.

still be happy to look at the docs for you, kind of interested to see how things are done in NZ anyways. might be pretty easy for you to formulate a defense in case he gives you any more trouble.

Hi, OP, American Lawerfag here. Not licensed in NZ (obviously) but the idea is pretty much the same world-round: covenants restricting use of the land run with the land, not with title, so that subsequent purchasers are bound.

In other words, you never signed the agreement, but you tacitly agreed by buying a property that was subject to that agreement. Common idea when talking about homeowner's associations, condominium assocations, etc. (Which happens to be my main area of practice.)

If you could post most of the document he gave to you, i'd be happy to look it over. ill save the thread and check back every few hours.

likely, if he is only going to be there a few more months, you dont have to worry about it. worst case scenario, you eventually lose and you just take down your little shed. if lawyer neighbor is only there a few months, do you know if he is just renting? if he is just renting, then he has no standing to do anything, only the owner of the property does. if he owns it, then he would have to sue for violation of the covenant, likely to get something like an injunction requiring you to take the shed down. here, there are special boards that we go to for arbitration before we end up in court.

i kinda feel bad for the lawyer guy, sounds like he doesnt really give a shit about the shed, but his bitch wife is raising cain about it.

this is for you two since you're so obsessed with me selling the liquor.

>>541320
>2) we are not selling it

lastly, we are not making moonshine (ie, from corn) we are just making rum. which for a majority of history was not an illegal substance. we are not trying to duplicate shitty mason jar moonshine bottles, we were going more for a legitimate production look.

there was no ad hominem. i addressed your argument the whole time. you know what nevermind this is so far off topic its not even funny anymore.

However, i will point out again, that we DO NOT WANT TO SELL IT. Are you fucking blind?

Sorry if you're jealous about my success. I'm pretty happy with my life. English major, not philosophy, but otherwise pretty close so good job.

not here for a wank, i was asking for legit advice. we're already fermenting, we are doing something. the still is made and tested. waiting for the rest of the sugar to get fermented, probably distilling this weekend.

>>544724
thanks for the input. i have no questions about the design of the label. they will be simplistic single color. what about this waxed newsprint now? my understanding is that casein glue was commonly used to bond paper to plastic...have you used it before?

we're on target with the still, thanks. we have all those features, we are being very safe. using electric heating element several feet from the condenser, separating distillate into 250ml portions, etc.

goddamn what happened to /diy/? I can use google, which mostly produced a bunch of pictures of labels. I don't need pictures of labels, I can use photoshop and already have a label designed. note that i asked about:
1) paper
2) printing (laser/ink/stamp/offset/etc)
3) ink
4) glue
5) bottle type

so fuck you with your "google image" advice. you try finding information germane to "affixing paper labels to glass bottles in an historically accurate way." Jesus Christ.

secondly, where the fuck does everyone get the idea to equate lawyers with Judge Dredd? We don't have some insane allegiance to the law as it is currently written. In fact, my state's oath of attorney does not even include a statement to uphold THE LAW, only JUSTICE.

Laws can be wrong, they can be unjust, and they can be changed. Microbrewery is legal, guns are legal, pot is legal (in some places, soon everywhere), and I can smoke, drive a car (aka rolling death machine), and enlist in the military where i get to kill other people, but I can't make fucking LIQUOR IN MY GARAGE?

Fuck that noise. There is no sufficient public policy justification for the criminalization of small-scale liquor distillation. I have more respect for the law by hoping to make it what it ought to be than you do by blindly obeying it.

*sigh* dude how about some real advice.

if we are fermenting a molasses mash for rum, how long ought we let it ferment? its been a week and the gas output has only slowed a bit...should we let it go until it stops bubbling at all or should be stop it earlier so theres more sugar left in the wash?

you're such a condescending prick. I'm a 26 year old attorney. I have a lot more experience with related skills than you assume.

I realize aluminum isn't a long term solution. Nor is a vessel of that size, but again, this is a HOBBY. In other words, a PROJECT for FUN. We are not concerned with efficiency, durability, or scale of production, so stop approaching this like I'm trying to open a goddamn professional distillery.

the gaskets are a valid consideration. we will likely find a better longer term solution, if we wish to continue the project, long before the gaskets go bad.

What the fuck is your problem? You could be giving some legitimate advice, seeing as how you are, apparently, an indispensable font of sagacity, but instead you chose to repeat an expanded version of "don't do it."

been through both homedistiller and artisan distiller. understand the concepts.

lastly, not that i not once asked for your fucking advice about how to brew or distill. i asked for opinions about the bottles and labels. so, why don't you keep your opinions to yourself, unless you want to be useful?
