I would take bright tools any day over dark shit that blends in. If I were running some forest green Bosch or black Makita, I would lose that shit within a week and spend half the day searching for it before I realized Jamal stole it.

Get down on some 12V tools. They’re fuckin great for 90% of jobs around the house.

Pic related is the Yellowjacket, 4yr warranty. Actually just saw that HF offers a 3yr warranty on the yellow Daytona for $199, but the cheaper orange Daytonas only have the 90-day warranty.

This is what I was trying to explain. Looking at the ads, people don’t realize that the 1.5T jacks are like toys and the 3-Ton jacks are real pieces of equipment.

>>1567172

Pretty much everything at HF is their own store brand. There are only a couple random things that are sold elsewhere (Poulan Pro and a couple of the tiny home section items come to mind).

That Daytona jack is nice, but make sure you check the coupons whenever you buy something from that store. The low profile ones are more costly and you don’t really need them unless you drive a slammed Civic that bottoms out on speed bumps so keep that in mind. Also if you have never shopped at HF, remember that they only offer a 90-day warranty on anything with moving parts that doesn’t explicitly say “Lifetime Guarantee”. You can buy the extended warranty, but then you should factor that into the cost (Northern Tool has these nice Yellowjacket jacks that are just like the Daytonas for $199 right now and they might have a real warranty, making it ~$50 cheaper than the HF jack with a similar warranty). Make sure you follow instructions on jacks because I have seen ones you need to bleed before first use and you will wreck them prematurely if you don’t bleed it the first day you get it home.

>>1567217
Was it just a seal? That’s the other thing, for what you save at HF, you have to think about future service. I’m sure you can find seals, but HF won’t help you.

Brushed tools always get that little arc, especially with changing speeds and start-stop, and you get a tiny bit of electrical smell. But if you’re smelling a real strong burning scent, you may want to check out the brushes and make sure the connections are good and it’s clean. Some of the motors have built in brushes and there isn’t much you can do, so if they’re fucked up you will probably end up burning up some connection and need to send it back for warranty work.

Pic related is the one I had on my wishlist, but I use my power supply instead. This one seems to charge everything and will let you choose between 500mA and 1.0A. Reviews look decent and I think you can get it in different sizes if you want one that will charge 4 cells ar once.

There’s a million of them on Amazon. Some will charge different types like NiMH and Li-Ion. But if you’re just trying to do Li-Ions, find one with good ratings because some of the cheap ones don’t hold the cells in worth a damn. Also some will let you select different currents which is something to think about. Higher current means faster charge but less charge cycles in the long run.

Anyway if you’re charging Li-Ion cells, I suggest reading up on CC-CV and the “C” rating of cells, as well as checking the data sheet of your cells because that will tell you the optimum way to charge them.

Meh I have heard mixed things on the aluminum jacks and stands. I feel much safer under steel, especially if it’s just going to stay in the garage.

Also the 1.5T jacks are like a toy compared to the 3T. If you look at them in-store, there is a huge difference. The 3T is more like an actual shop jack, not some spare in the trunk. That 1.5T lifts to 14”, the 3T Rapid Pump goes closer to 20”, that’s a lot more working room.

Sign up for the emails. There are new coupons every month, and basically every weekend has new sales that are good Fri-Sun.

Meh, it’s all about the same. I’m retarded but I was fucking around with a bunch of little LED flashlights that run off 3xAAA (3x1.5v) and replaced it with one Li-Ion (~4V) and they run without any modification. Li-Ions are rechargeable and last forever so you can get a lot more light from a lithium battery and charge it with a cellphone charger compared to replacing watch batteries every other day. If you’re building the thing from scratch, it’s a thought.

CR123 would be a good option too. Get rechargeable ones and for like 1/2 the size of a AA, you can get as much power as 3xAAAs.

You can get tiny fucking 3.7V li-ions with protection built in. That cocksucker AvE, I can’t stand him but I still watch his videos and he took apart one of those electric lighters and the li-ion inside must have been the size of a couple nickels stacked together. It already had a micro USB charge port and protection hooked up to the battery, so just take the wires off that bitty battery and hook it up to a resistor + switch + choice of LED and you’re good to go.

Yeah but I wouldn’t buy half the hand tools without knowing that I could go get another one for free when I break it after a dozen uses.

I don’t even really buy shit from there anymore. I bought a handful of things that are slightly better Taiwanesium versions and then I realized that I could just get Gearwrench for about the same money. The last dozen times I went to HF, it was for orbital sanding discs and a $9 hear gun and nut + bolt assortments and cheap ass epoxy that was 20% off with a free multimeter. I refuse to buy anything with moving parts or electronics that costs >$40 because I don’t trust the 90-day warranty and the extended warranty for any of those things results in it costing more than the same item at Home Depot with a 1yr+ warranty.

Pic related is the aforementioned set always on sale for $25-$30. Despite what you think about Craftsman, it’s a great little set for that cost. That thing got me out of a mess working under the dash in my car and saved me from having to remove the steering wheel and all sorts of shit.

Oi that sucks.

I know people hate Craftsman because muh Asia, but these kits are solid considering they go on sale for like $30-$40. And there’s another set with long ball head hex sockets and some extensions and u-joints on sale for $25-$30 all the time.

Otherwise take a look at Gearwrench if you don’t want to go full tool truck money. Northern Tool sells nice sets like that as well, their sockets are made by Apex (aka Gearwrench) and their hex and torx sockets look the same and they come on the same nice little rails as GW but the prices are very reasonable for what you get.
