i was poking holes in his theory, not actually asking how windings work.

and the answer is there is, if theres only one phase, the motor will only keep spinning if you give it a push either direction. before 70% rpm the motor is technically a two phase motor. with the start and the run windings. once it trips the cent switch, its back to a single phase motor.

the second phase is generated in the start winding. it has more turns of thinner wire, increasing resistance, and making the current lag the voltage.

an impact works exactly the same way. the weights slam towards the nut youre loosing. they dont impact in the direction of rotation. they also weigh a fraction of the weight of a 3lb hammer. sure they hit more, but they have a lot less force per hit than a constant whacking with a sizable hammer.

try it, you'll be surprised how well it works

engine fan is prob just a clutch with no electrical.

heater fan is probably a blown fuse

the little tab at the end of the tape is loose, they say it is to keep it accurate for internal/external measuring

i cant get it to work because im horribly retarded when it comes to simple things like that. what i do is just use the 1" mark, and subtract an inch off my total. so start on outside or inside or center, it doesnt matter where, of the 1 inch mark. the important thing is you use the same spot always.

anyways ill line up the board end to the start of the one inch line of the tape. then make a V mark pointing to the start of the 13 line. grab a square and make a straight line right through the center of the V. cut on the outside of this line.

if you're doing multiple cuts and want to lay it all out at once, add 1/8" every time. always cut on the side of the line that is outside the distance you just measured.

so i'll go 13" and V, 25 1/8" and V, 37 1/4" and V, 49 3/8" and V. all in one go

then grab a square, make my lines, and cut on the outside of each line

>I posit that you don't know what the fuck you are talking about

thats fine, i got nothing to prove

>How is the main winding powered during start?

how does the motor start to spin with no outside force and only single phase? (one winding, the start winding, as per your theory). why even have a start winding? why not just one winding that does both the starting and the running?

>this might be true if I were grinding metal and stupid enough to direct it onto the motor. Even then, I doubt that the motor vibrates enough to damage the windings.

listen guy, theres a reason everybody who actually has a clue of what theyre doing uses TEFC motors for belt grinders

this will take a while to really get the hang of it. but my best piece of advice is, just listen to that little voice inside your head. the one that tells you to stop prying on something just before you break it. or the one that tells you to stop pulling on the olfa knife before you cut your thumb wide open. maybe grab a pair of vise grips to hold the chisel before you smash the nigger loving fuck out of your thumb.

it takes practice, but its one of the most important pieces of a mechanics mindset.

the other most important part is have patience. dont be one of those angry mechanics that swear and throw shit across the room. never let anything bother you. bolt broke? no biggie. cant get a connector apart? move on to something else and then come back to it. impatience and frustration have a snowball effect. dont let it snow in the first place.

what i do when it gets real bad is imagine bob ross narrating all my actions. calms me right down

heres the latest one i made, and a couple to show its progression. i managed to do this one without a drill press. just an angle, bench, and disc grinder. lots of filing, sanding, and polishing. est time: 30 some hours. all riveted 10 rivets total. the hidden one is about 3/16 of an inch behind the pivot pin. scales are aluminum, front bolster is brass. a stainless pivot pin. blade is a tool steel. liners are spring steel. been using this at work for a while and its held up great, aside from a few scratches

anyways, pics related
