Thank you. You're quite the master of your craft, too.

Hmmm there's some pretty fantastic variety already :3 I don't think I really know of anything else.

As per your request, here's the bamboo birching rod.

I think I'll make use of them tonight. I've gotten into the nasty habit of closing my legs as I approach orgasm. I think it's time to make things much more interesting.

I just got through making these. I made two spreader bars, one 3' long and the other 4'. I used the eyelets and 7/16" solid braided nylon rope.

It's called edge play. Some people really love it in many different ways...some like the risk and the feel of the cool metal, and a few actually enjoy drawing blood. Such people are definitely in a tiny minority, however. Blood play is incredibly rare.

I actually just torrented a massive collection of their videos, all organized and sorted. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post torrents, but if I am, I definitely will.

Ah fantastic. Will the cheap fuzzy ones from Spencer's do the trick?

Oh fuck yes. I've been meaning to add one of those to my collection for a good long time now. I may end up substituting in some gutted 1/4" braided nylon for the rope, though.

Ooooohhhhhh that is awesome. And thanks, mate, for all the archives! I'll upload them to mediafire as I get them so I can share them here, if that's okay with you.

Just got it myself. Looks to be mostly furniture-related items.

Thank you! It's always nice to see another knotty person. ^.^

I'm kind of miffed at myself that I had to burn the ends separately and not tuck them under the other wraps because they're tied so tight to prevent slipping. I also really need to learn some other handle wrap braids.

The more you know o.o I suppose I'll stick to just using regular silicone toys soaked for a few minutes in ice-water so they heat up quickly.

Indeed, I find the silicone cylindrical popsicle molds to be much more reliable. A fun idea all the same.

I just finished my latest toy. It's a cane made from 8 three-foot-long bamboo barbecue skewers. I gave it a handle and tied it in the middle with a bit of string to keep the rods from flaying out too much. It is quite powerful and very stingy, especially after a couple strikes in the same place.

Mostly it depends on how much cash and time you have. Lots of cash = buy all the things! No cash and lots of free time = make your own out of damn near anything. Wooden spoons and hair brushes make cheap paddles. Several lengths of rope can be doubled over, tied at the loop, and frayed at the ends to make a wide variety of floggers. Wooden dowel rods are made into canes. Clusters of small rods, acetal rods, and sometimes fiberglass (though beware of splintering/shattering!) can be made into synthetic birching rods. If you're really confident in your abilities and have a sub that likes it really rough, steel dowel rods can be used as canes, too. That can break bones though, so be careful!

If you have the cash to drop on toys, by all means do so. A good flogger runs from $70-300 and up. A nice whippy rattan cane can go for as little as $5, though it won't be very fancy. If you're like most people, you can still rack up an insane variety out of household items. Or, go without or borrow toys. The palm of your hand or a bundle of twigs soaked in brine can be just as punishing as a good cane. ;)

Personally, I always try to give my homemade toys a bit of flare. I like to think it makes them look more professional and a bit more intimidating. I could have gone just with the bare wood on the canes and it would have been equally functional. I just like the extra aesthetic appeal. It's really a personal call. For under $50, and with some creativity, you can have a well-stocked toy chest in an afternoon. If you want to spend the time and a little extra money, you can make things that look professional.

That's fine, S/M certainly isn't for everyone, and we all have our limits. Medically and scientifically, however, it isn't really weird at all. This is pain that does no lasting damage to the body, fades quickly (granted, sitting may be a bit tricky for a day or two after), and releases a massive torrent of feel-good chemicals in the brain.

Of course it's going to be unpleasant no matter what if it triggers horrific flashbacks and overwhelming negative associations. S/M clearly isn't right for you. That's okay. You're under no pressure or obligation to try it out.

I am kind of curious if you'd be into bondage or power play without pain, though.

Speaking of bondage...this seems like a really clever system:

I gave these things a test drive last night on myself. Oh my god they're lovely. They left some nice marks and held up extremely well. :3 They have absolutely no spring to them, but I kind of like that. There's a rather nice balance between sting and thunk in all three models.

The steel dowels, on the other hand...those things are nuts. Serious beasts of a cane. There's a whole lot of thunk, very little springback, and the smaller ones are quite stingy. It doesn't take a strong arm to reach someone's limits quickly with those.

Might I recommend reading The New Topping Book and The New Bottoming Book? They're quite short and are remarkably excellent books. I'll even save you the trouble and upload the ebook versions in one convenient link:

In your mind, there is remarkably little difference between pain and pleasure. On top of that, S/M releases a flood of endorphins (for both participants), and it isn't all that unusual for bottoms to go to "subspace." But hey, to each their own.

Mmm that would be delightful. I'll keep this thread alive as much as possible.

You're an unhelpful lot, aren't you?

I decided to make three sturdy canes from solid oak dowel rods, stained dark cherry and finished with several coats of hard, high-gloss polyurethane varnish. I started by cutting them to a length of 24 inches, sanded them smooth, and rounded off the sharp corners for safety's sake. Once they're done drying, I'll wrap the handles with gutted paracord.

Oak, being a very hard wood, has little springback, making these somewhat untraditional canes. That said, I love the sensation all the same, and I don't foresee myself swinging them hard enough to snap the comparatively brittle wood or reaching a personal level of pain tolerance that would have the same effect. All in all, a good beginner's weapon, well-suited to practice and rather attractive in appearance. The light weight of the wood makes it's nearly impossible to cause anyone serious injury.

Hello ladies and gents. I'm a kinky switchy chick, and I'd like to make some good homemade BDSM toys. So far, I've made two paracord floggers, but I'd really love to expand my toy chest with canes, switches, rods, and other delicious things. So please, if anyone else here is kinky, I'd love to get some ideas and maybe instructables. :3
