the screws on those are recessed, so just drill the head off, then after you split the case grab the stud that is left with some pliers and unscrew it.

there's a lot of reasons not to use a transmission.

1. it's not really necesary, torque with an electic motor is the same from >0 rpm to infinity where an internal combustion engine varies.

2. an electirc motor can stop and start with no issues, an internal combustion engine must be able to idle otherwise it would stall, so it needs a disconnect between it and the wheels.

3. it would add a lot of extra weight

4. power loss from a hydraulic (automatic transmission) system.

>of course a gear reduction system does make sense and would decrease wear and reduce power consumption, but could easily be built into the electric motor case and could be used to either increase torque for lower speed pulling towing, or to increase top speed when applying a smaller motor
